Dog Listening

Up until 60 years ago, people usually owned dogs for a reason and they were bred to do a specific job i.e. hunt, retrieve game, shepherd, keep vermin down etc and they earned their living as the subordinate of the family unit or their pack.

Since then, we started owning dogs for the pure pleasure of their companionship and what we now call ’Traditional’ methods like Obedience became the new vogue. All dogs were taught to Sit, Stay, Heel and Come at their masters command and dogs were taught to stop thinking for themselves and more ‘behavioural problems’ soon followed.

What Dog Listening Does
As Dog Listeners we know that requesting something from your dog reaps more rewards than shouting ‘commands’. We ask the dog and if you have built up the trust and respect this method encourages, the dog is willing to work  with you and do what you ask as it’s pack leader.
It will also do it of it’s own free will without force or coercion.

People as a whole give out mixed signals with their body language, tone of voice and posture, we as humans see it every day, and so does your dog.  These signals are confusing and if the dog doesn’t think you are leadership material, it takes charge, even if it’s only a puppy with very little experience of the world. Once it takes ‘charge’ this is where the problems begin.

Dog Listening gets you, the owner, to take charge of the 4 key elements in situations where power of the pack is decided. These are Food, the Hunt or walk, Perceived Danger and Reuniting or status.

Your dog will always ask where does it fit in in it’s pack and with Dog Listening we will help you to have the answer to the question every time, making you a consistent leader and reinforcing your leadership in the dogs language which it understands.

What Dog Listening is not:
Dog Listening is not dog training, we train people to understand their dog. It is not ‘Breed specific’ so your Great Dane will understand this method as much as your Chihuahua. It is not a ‘quick fix’ solution, it is a method that works into your lifestyle and creates good habits and breaks old ones. It is not aggressive, confrontational or negative in any way.

What Dog Listening is:
Dog Listening works in all situations, from your home environment to rescue centres and Boarding kennels, as it takes the stress of responsibility off the dog, leaving them more relaxed to just be dogs.  This method works with the dogs nature, it is simple, gentle, positive and based on understanding and patience.
